“STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD”

“SURGERY YOU MUST HAVE OR DIE”

JOSHUA 5:1-9

“Gilgal” means a rolling away.

Moses and the circumcision of his son:

Exodus 4:24-26 “And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the Lord met him and sought to kill him. 25Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!” 26So He let him go. Then she said, “You are a husband of blood!”—because of the circumcision.”

This is a sign of God’s covenant with Israel.

The Significance of Biblical Circumcision

Surgery You Must Have or Die:

Some of the hardest things for us to get are the most important. Because God’s “ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.”

God established male circumcision as the seal to the covenant that God made with Abraham:

Genesis 17:8-14

Romans 4:8-11

Circumcision is related to new life. We as believers when we receive Jesus as Savior have new life in Christ.

Romans 15:4 “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”

God is a source of life. When Christ came to earth God was revealing Himself through His seed- Jesus- as our Savior.

Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel.” 

Galatians 3:16 “Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ.”

The seed from Abraham to Mary.

Matthew 27:50-51 “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.”

Jesus came to bring life and abundant life- John 10:10

*“Circumcision” is God revealing Himself to us, that He is the source of life.

We have a corrupted seed:

1 Peter 1:23-25 “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25But the word of the Lord endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.”

Deuteronomy 10:16 “Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer.”

Romans 2:25 “For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.”

When a person has a right heart attitude toward God, things are open to them:

Romans 2:26-29

God is concerned about the heart.

Colossians 2:8-15

Paul is warning us, not to follow after the world but after Christ. 

*All the fulness of God was in Christ vs.9

*We are complete in Christ vs.10

*Spiritual circumcision vs.11-15

Surgery can be painful but it can be the difference between life and death. You do this or die!

Joshua 5:7-8 “Then Joshua circumcised their sons whom He raised up in their place; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way. 8So it was, when they had finished circumcising all the people, that they stayed in their places in the camp till they were healed.”

James 4:4 “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

We should have a different set of values than the world. The way we approach life.

1 John 2:15-16 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”

Spiritual circumcision is cutting off the old way of life. The world, the flesh and the devil.

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

You must put your trust in God today! For salvation? Sanctification?
