“STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD”
“ORDERS FROM THE NEW LEADER”
JOSHUA 1:10-18
Deuteronomy 1:15 “So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and knowledgeable men, and made them heads over you, leaders of thousands, leaders of hundreds, leaders of fifties, leaders of tens, and officers for your tribes.”
Joshua 1:10-18
Preparation To Cross The Jordon: Joshua 1:10-15
1. Joshua encourages the leaders:
Joshua 1:10-11 “Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11“Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.”
Joshua 5:11-12 “And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day. 12Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.”
It isn’t a matter of age; it’s a matter of faith; and faith comes from meditating on the Word of God:
Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
*Unity is Important: Joshua 1:12-15
2. Obedience Of The Officers
Joshua 1:16-18 “So they answered Joshua, saying, “All that you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17Just as we heeded Moses in all things, so we will heed you. Only the Lord your God be with you, as He was with Moses. 18Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage.”
They Encouraged Him:
*By assuring him of their complete obedience- vs.16-17
“All that you command us we will do” “wherever you send us we will go.” They had no hidden agendas, and they ask for no concessions. They would obey all his commands and go wherever he would send them. We could use that kind of commitment today.
George MacDonald said “I find the doing of the will of God leaves me no time for disputing about His plan.”
*By Praying for him- vs.17 “Only the Lord your God be with you, as He was with Moses.”
*By Assuring him that their obedience was a matter of life or death- vs.18 “shall be put to death.”
Joshua 7:24-25
Luke 6:46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
*By Reminding him of the Word of God- vs.18 “Only be strong and of good courage.”
Four times in this chapter you find the words “be strong and of good courage” (vs.6-7,9,18). If we are to conquer the enemy and claim our inheritance in Christ, we must have spiritual strength and spiritual courage. We have to stand on the promises of God.
Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
Jeremiah 1:19 “They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”
Hebrews 13:6 “So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Charles Wesley “Soldiers of Christ, arise, and put your armor on, strong in the strength which God supplies of His eternal Son.”
Deuteronomy 1:21 “Look, the Lord your God has set the land before you; go up and possess it, as the Lord God of your fathers has spoken to you; do not fear or be discouraged.”
Be strong, Stand on the Promises of God! The battle is the Lord’s!
