“STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF GOD”
“HOW TO HAVE A LIFE OF GOOD SUCCESS”
JOSHUA 1:8
Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
You can be equipped to enter into the life God has planned for you and be successful according to this promise.
Three Tools To See You Through Life:
- God’s Grace
Joshua 1:1-2 “After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.”
Moses and the law could not take children of Israel into the Promise Land, only Joshua or Jesus could do that. It is by grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9
Isaiah 30:18 “Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.”
Let’s see how simple this is: An approach to life.
Victory only comes by the grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
The Old Testament is there to show us no one can keep the law that is why Jesus came.
He came to fulfill the law for us and to become the sacrifice for our sins because we could not keep the law. He then arose again the third day to give us His life and the power of the resurrection.
The New Life
Ephesians 2:8-9- Salvation is free.
Ephesians 2:10- But we have to still go and live for Him.
Colossians 2:6 “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.”
Die to that old way and live by God’s grace and be able to gain the victory. You will never have victory until you die to the past.
vs.2 “Moses My servant is dead, Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan.”
2. A Godly Walk
Joshua 1:3, 13 “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is giving you rest and is giving you this land.”
What did Israel ever do to deserve the land?
Joshua 1:2 “…go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.”
They didn’t do anything, God gave it to them.
But what did you do to deserve God’s grace? Nothing, but He gives it to us anyways.
Joshua 1:13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is giving you rest and is giving you this land.”
Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” A landmark verse for us.
Ephesians 1:11 “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.”
Ephesians 1:18 “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
God has already given it to us, why don’t we see it or have it? We take possession of what we have by our walk.
Joshua 1:3 “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.”
The principle of appropriation- taking what is ours, put up some fences.
Genesis 13:17 “Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”
Joshua 1:3-6 “Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. 5No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.”
We take possession by our walk:
“Walk in love”- Ephesians 5:1-2 “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.”
“Walk as children of light”- Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
“Walk circumspectly”- Ephesians 5:15 “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.” Walk carefully.
3. God’s Word
Joshua 1:7-8 “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
God’s Word is the road map for the road ahead of us. God has given us a book to help with the journey ahead.
What’s your daily plan of attack for reading God’s Word?
You must take the time, have a schedule or plan to what and where you will read, and you need to do it everyday.
Consistency is much more important than Quantity.
Joshua 1:8 “success”- if we get into God’s Word everyday and think on it, we can have success. God gives us a money back guarantee.
Psalm 1:1-3
vs.8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth..”
Make sure the words of God are on the tip of your tongue, ready to speak of the hope that is in you.
Psalm 149:6 “Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
And a two-edged sword in their hand.”
Deuteronomy 6:6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.”
Colossians 2:7 “Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”
Acts 20:32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. “
Three Obstacles That Will Keep You From Victory or Success:
- Ghost From The Past- holding on to past ideas.
- Failing Take Possession of What God Has Given You.
- Not Getting into God’s Word Everyday
