“ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR LIFE?”
“JUDGEMENT”
COLOSSIANS 2:16-17
vs.4- no one deceiving you with persuasive words.
vs.8- “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Third warning is in our text for today.
Colossians 2:16-17 “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.”
Judgement- Colossians 2:13-16
It is easy for people to rush to judgement.
John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
The difference between judgement and discernment.
vs.16 “judge”
John 3:17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to “condemn” the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
Acts 3:13 “The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he was “determined” to let Him go.”
Acts 13:28 “And though they found no cause for death in Him, they asked Pilate that He should be put (sentenced) to death.
Acts 15:19 “Therefore I judge (concluded) that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God.”
Acts 23:6 “But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee; concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!” (Or called into question).
“Judge”- is one to set himself up as judge, as one to pronounce someone guilty.
Matthew 7:1 ““Judge not, that you be not judged.”
2 Timothy 4:8 “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
There is only one righteous judge and that is God.
1 Corinthians 4:1-5
Matthew 7:15-20, esp. vs.20 “know them”
1 Corinthians 11:28-32- “examine, discern, judge”
Colossians 2:16 “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,”
Emphasizing the externals could come from someones:
*Immaturity or Ignorance-Romans 14:1-4
*Dead Orthodoxy- Matthew 23:27-28
*False Cults-Hebrews 13:9
We need to rightly divide the Word of God!!
Realize Scripture has three basic applications:
1. Historical Application
2. Doctrinal Application-
3. Personal Application-
Colossians 2:16 “So let no one judge you..”
Five Things:
*“food or in drink”- does what you eat or drink affect your spirituality or your salvation?
No!
Hebrews 9:9-11
1 Corinthians 8:8 “But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse.”
Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
*“or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,”- Does these things affect your spirituality or salvation? No!
Romans 14:5-6
Galatians 4:9-11
Colossians 2:17 “Which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.”
It is good for us to know the Word of God because these are a shadow of the things to come.
1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Colossians 2:17 “but the substance is of Christ.”
As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in Him the same way- by faith in Christ!
Romans 14:10 “But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.”
Ephesians 5:25-26
God keeps His church clean as the Word of God is ministered. God’s detergent removes the stains and dirt.
Do you know Jesus Christ? Do you have a relationship with Him?
