“ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR LIFE?”

“BEWARE!!”

COLOSSIANS 2:8-10

“Beware”-look-out, stop, look, listen

Colossians 2:8-10 “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”

vs.8 “beware lest anyone cheat you…” cheat you-take you captive, hurt you, do damage to you.

vs.8 “through philosophy”- a lover of wisdom

1 Corinthians 1:27-31 “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

vs.8 “empty deceit”-or vain deceit, people cannot figure out this life until they understand that God is Lord and they accept that.

James 1:22 “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

vs.8 “traditions of men”- trying to do it our way instead of God’s way. 

There are good things but are they godly things?

Matthew 15:1-6 “Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2“Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” 3He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 5But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”— 6then he need not honor his father or mother.’ Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.” 

vs.8 “according to the basic principles of the world”- we cannot allow the world to hold us in bondage.

Colossians 2:20-22 “Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations— 21“Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the commandments and doctrines of men?”

Galatians 4:3 “Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.”

Galatians 4:9 “But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?”

vs.8 “and not according to Christ.”- How are you making your decisions? Based on man or based on the Word of God, according to Christ.

Who is in control of your life? Beware!! Watch Out

Genesis 3:6 “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”

John 8:32 “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

2 Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

vs.9 “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;”

Colossians 1:16-18 “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”

He created all things and He sustains all things. Christ is all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Life will only make sense with Christ.

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:18 “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”

John 14:8-9 “Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

Ephesians 1:23 “Which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

Ephesians 3:19 “To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

vs.10 “And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”

Christ holds the answers to the true meaning of life because Christ is life.

Colossians 2:15 “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

1 John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”

Everything in life comes from Jesus and He is the truth because God is truth!
